Intertwine, Mixed Media
When I first entered the ALC program, Studio Arts, I did not really know what to expect nor was I coming into this program with any expectations. Art to me was just a medium where I could let creativity run free, but presently it has become a way for me to portray my inner thoughts and feelings that sometimes words alone cannot express.
In making this art piece I had Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory of the Ego, Superego, and Id on my mind. The Ego is how I choose to present myself; the Superego is my logical and ideal self that I wish to achieve, and the Id is where my desires lie. In a world, full of constant pressure to be perfect I often lose sight of myself in this odyssey, forgetting my own needs and desires. This struggle of trying to create who I want to be despite society’s expectation, is truly like a maze.
Although we might not be aware of these different sides of ourselves, they will always be interlocked, and this is my first step in exploring the potential in myself.
